UK scientist name thyme as effective acne treatment

Posted on March 28th, 2012 No Comments

Scientists in the UK have stated that the ingredient, thyme, is effective in treating acne even more so than some acne medication cream.

Researchers from Leeds Metropolitan University have studied the cooking herb and determined that it can help to treat the bacteria that causes most acne.

The study looked into how effective thyme was against a very popular ingredient in acne cream, benzoyl peroxide. Mrryh and marigold were also tested, but thyme was the most effective in killing the bacteria. The ingredients were soaked in alcohol first so that the natural active ingredients could become more prominent.

Acne sufferers are always looking for treatment in order to rid their skin of the condition. One treatment that was used regularly for quite some time was Accutane, but it was later taken off the shelves after it was linked to multiple negative side effects.

Survey: Adult acne on the rise

Posted on March 19th, 2012 No Comments

A new self reported survey shows that adult acne may be on the rise for women over the age 25.

The American Academy of Dermatology will meet for an annual conference today in San Diego in order to discuss this issue. One survey was published in 2008 showed that acne affects more than 50 percent of women between the age of 20-29.

The same study showed that nearly 25 percent of women ages 40-49 suffered from adult acne. Woman are more susceptible to developing adult acne because hormones play such a large role the cause of acne. One factor in adult acne development is that when women age, the levels of androgens raise. In order to combat this, hormone treatments can be prescribed.

Personality changes after Accutane use

Posted on March 15th, 2012 No Comments

Accutane is a popular medication used to treat acne, but it has faced backlash from users after allegedly developing inflammatory bowel diseases and suffering personality changes as a result of the use.

Many people have reported that the use of this medication has caused this to happen and a study was done in order determine if there was a connection. The study was conducted in order to study the brain activity of people who have used the drug by giving an MRI or PET.

It was discovered that people who completed an Accutane treatment show an average of a 21 percent decrease in the activity in the orbitofrontal cortex. This part of the brain works on decision making and other cognitive processing. This means the area that stores the personality does not function correctly.

N.J. Supreme Court rules on Accutane case

Posted on March 7th, 2012 No Comments

The New Jersey Supreme Court has now made a ruling on an Accutane lawsuit that was filed in 2005 and awarded a $10.5 million settlement. The judge in the case has now stated that the case did not miss the statue of limitations that the state has set.

On Monday, the court made a ruling that the plaintiff in the case had no way to know that the medication, Accutane, would cause  her to develop an inflammatory bowel disease before December 2003.

The plaintiff in the case took Accutane as a teenager and later developed ulcerative colitis as a result. Accutane was a very popular medication used to treat acne, but was discontinued in 2009 after multiple lawsuits were filed stating that the medication caused serious health issues.

The plaintiff began taking the medication when she was 12 years old and developed stomach problems two years later. She filed the lawsuit stating that the medication failed to warn of potential side effects adequately.

Determining eligibilty of Accutane lawsuits

Posted on March 2nd, 2012 No Comments

When determining eligibility in an Accutane lawsuit that claims Inflammatory Bowel Disease, medical records must be shown in order to prove that these conditions did not exist before using the medication.

If a person has a family history of stomach and gastrointestinal issues, this could potentially hurt a person in an Accutane suit. In an Accutane lawsuit, when a person began taking the drug and when symptoms began is also looked into.

Also, a statue of limitations is important because each state has a different law on this and it is important to determine the difference. Thousands of lawsuits have now been filed that state that the use of the acne medication caused Crohn’s disease or ulcerative colitis. These conditions come with painful and uncomfortable side effects that can change the life of those affected.

Study: Kids with Crohn’s have trouble in school

Posted on February 27th, 2012 No Comments

A new study that was recently done looked into the children that suffer from Crohn’s and colitis in order to determine how it affects them in school.

The study took place in Ohio and looked at children ages 11 to 17 who suffered from an inflammatory bowel disease and sent them questionnaires asking them about their mental health, how well they do in school and their overall quality of life.

The schools in which the students attended gave absence information. The study found that the children with the condition missed more school then healthy kids and that they also faced a higher risk of developing depression from “internalizing” issues with the disease.

Children that struggle with mental illness also tend to miss more school. Researchers stated that not only does the disease itself get in the way with school, but the treatment may also get in the way.

Acne is a frustrating condition that affects thousands across the globe. When trying to combat this condition and get clear and healthy skin, it may be a trial and error effort. Here are a few natural remedies that you can try that may be able to help.

First, in order to treat blackheads on your face, create a concoction of milk and lime and wash your face with that. This is an easy cleanser to make because it just involves boiling the milk and squeezing the juice from one lime. Then, let it cool and massage onto the face.

Boiling a mango can also be used as an astringent that can cleanse your pores. Boil the mango and rub it onto the face after it cools. Large Accutane proceedings now consolidated, continue to be filed

Posted on February 20th, 2012 No Comments

Accutane lawsuits that claim that the drug caused patients to develop  and Inflammatory Bowel Disease such as Crohn’s disease or ulcerative colitis are continuing to be filed at this time.

The lawsuits were consolidated into a mass tort in 2008 in the New Jersey court. Mass torts are beneficial because only one judge rules on the issue so they are able to get all of the facts about the case in order to determine the best result. More and more cases are continuing to be filed at this time because there is a latency period before the disease can be diagnosed.

If you or a loved one has been injured as a result of taking Accutane, you need representation on your side. Contact the Accutane lawsuit lawyers of Williams Kherkher by calling 800-761-3187.

Children with IBD can struggle in school

Posted on February 17th, 2012 No Comments

A study recently published in the Journal of Developmental & Behavioral Pediatrics suggests that children with inflammatory bowel disease, or IBD, often struggle in school. The disease is characterized by abdominal pain and gastrointestinal problems.

The study was conducted by Nationwide Children’s Hospital. One point that the study makes is that children with IBD, much like children with other chronic diseases, are more likely to be absent. “Youth with IBD are at increased risk for depression, so the finding that internalizing problems are associated with school absence is a particular concern with important implications,” said one of the author’s of the study.

Acne medication Accutane has been linked to IBD and is often prescribed to teens with severe acne. If you or someone you know developed IBD after taking Accutane, contact the Accutane IBD lawyers of Williams Kherkher by calling 800-761-3187 today.

Broccoli and blueberries helpful for digestive issues

Posted on February 16th, 2012 No Comments

A new study shows that people who have digestion issues may benefit from eating blueberries and broccoli.

The study was done in New Zealand when researchers worked to test 36 mice that suffered from an Inflammatory Bowel Disease. They then fed them blueberries and broccoli for 21 weeks.

The mice showed improvement with digestion after they were given blueberries and broccoli because these two foods help with the inflamed bowel. After this study, a study may need to be done in order to see how these foods can help with the human body. Researchers are hoping that because the study helped with mice, it may have similar affects on humans that struggle with these conditions.
